Seagull Excursion Series

seagull-excursion

The Circuit Series by Seagull follow the same peachy craftsmanship of all the other cracking Seagull Acoustic Guitars (past Godin) only they happened to make their high quality guitars into a slightly lower upkeep model with the Excursion Series.

Whereas the Original Seagull S6 Series ranges in price and options from nearly $400 to $560 give or take, the Seagull Excursion Series is a little lighter on the budget and ranges betwixt $299 to $409 depending on the model and options detailed beneath.

Groundwork: Godin Guitars went back to the drawing board to build a guitar that fits a niche with a trivial lower budget than their Original S6 Serial, or the Seagull Entourage, Maritime and other guitar lines.  Seagull calls this their rugged, bare-bones series that are packed full of tone and they are accurate on all of these descriptions, except I believe these guitars are a footling more elegant than rugged.  Perhaps they used the term "rugged" because there are not a lot of frills to the look and natural finish, including the "burned in" rosette around the sound hole which gives it perhaps a bit more than rugged and raw await.  These guitars are made in 1 of the five locations of Godin Guitars in Quebec, Canada, in a town called Princeville, a trivial nether a 2 hour bulldoze to LaPatrie, where Seagull makes well-nigh or all of their Seagull guitar necks and bodies with fine Canadian French Adroitness.  This Series is made with 100% Canadian forest.

In that location are 6 models in this Seagull Excursion Lineup- and to make it simple, hither is what they all have in common (I'll explicate the differences below):

All models in this series feature:

  • The Segaull standard slimmer Northut Width : 1.72" for easier playability
  • Neck fabricated of Silver Foliage Maple
  • Fingerboard & Span fabricated from cute Rosewood
  • Burned Stamped Rosette Design instead of hurting or inlay
  • The Nut & Saddle materials are made from Tusq® past Graphtech and Compensated for best intonation
  • The Seagull Standard Double Function Truss Rod (tin adjust the cervix / cord "set" in either management)
  • The Finish is a Custom Polished Semi-Gloss - which is what the "SG" in all of the names ways
  • All models come with the optional Fishman Isys Pickup - a solid pickup and preamp for a modest additional $l

Hither'due south where they differ:

The 3 Natural Models:

The Seagull Circuit Natural SG, the SeagullExcursion Natural Folk SG and the Seagull Circuit  Natural Grand SG all have a wild cherry top, wild cerise back & sides with 3-layer lamination of solid cerise layers. This gives them a great sound and better life-long resilience than solid, single layer, non-laminated wood you find in more expensive guitars.

The theory has always been that laminated dorsum and sides, though their sound does non deepen with age, tends to exist more than resilient to ecology changes and then they are not quite as choosy to care for in the long run as more expensive solid forest, not-laminated guitars.

These take a bright, punchy, crisp audio, but even so well rounded and not equally brilliant and sparse every bit a hard maple guitar body sound.

These commencement 3 as well offer the Seagull Dreadnought style, the Folk Size and the Grand Size (which is the parlor size and is the smallest).

seagull-excursion-walnutThe next three in the series include the Seagull Excursion Walnut SG, theSeagull Circuit Walnut Mini Jumbo SG, and the Seagull Excursion Walnut 12 SG all feature a Sitka Spruce Top and Laminated Walnut Back and sides for a darker, richer look and a little tonal divergence, as Walnut Expresses a Darker, richer tone than Cherry.

The Sitka Bandbox gives a brighter, more punchy well-baked attack sound so you would await to take a wider EQ of tonal expression on the 3 Walnut Models.

The Walnut Serial are the only ones that feature the mini-colossal model (different feel and a little more than bass in the sound) and the 12 string Dreadnought model.

Mario Biferali from Godin / Seagull Guitars describes the nuances
and the reason Seagull created the Excursion series.

The Seagull Guitar line has been and so pop that dealers across the US and Canada had been asking Seagull to create Seagull quality guitars that could exist offered almost the $299 price bespeak, and this was the demand that Seagull / Godin guitars took into consideration when they created these very affordable gems!

Quick Summary with Toll Ranges

for these sweet sounding guitars is about between $299 to effectually $450 explained here:

The Excursion Natural Folk ranges the aforementioned from virtually $299 to $349 - likewise depending on what comes with it and if you cull i with the Isys Pickup

The Excursion Natural M (smallest parlor size) ranges from about $279 to $349- with the college also being with Fishman Isys Pickup

The Circuit Walnut SG (Dreadnought size) ranges from $349 acoustic to $409 acoustic electric

Target Actor Marketplace:

I believe this is a swell guitar for every beginner or intermediate who really likes the Seagull quality and has but enough money to go the all-time sound for their buck, but cannot afford the actress $100 to $150 to get an S6 Original or some other higher model offered by Seagull / Godin Guitars.  Aptly named "Seagull Excursion" which means "a short journey or trip", they suggest that these guitars would too make a great travel guitar.

It is as well swell for the advanced player who wants a great, sturdy, superior sounding, and very playable guitar to have effectually when it is non wise to bear their more than expensive professional guitar, and they desire a full size guitar for the road instead of a smaller sized travel guitar, although 1 could buy the Circuit Folk or the Circuit G if they did desire an affordable, neat sounding guitar that is closer to a travel size model. It can too exist that guitar to have out to play on a regular basis at domicile for the person who owns a higher terminate guitar simply would rather keep a less expensive 1 out for regular play without sacrificing bully playability and audio - these actually do sound great!

Audio: The sound quality is bright, punchy, yet total and rounded, giving more depth of sound than a maple torso guitar.   The Excursion Walnut models have a slight scrap of a richer tone due to the difference in tone wood, but it is more of an aesthetical deviation than audio or tonality difference.  As expected, the smaller models volition not give as much of a bass response when played next to the dreadnought and mini jumbo trunk sizes.

What some owners have said :

seagull-excursion-review5 Stars - the Walnut SG had overall better resonance in the bass - M.W.

seagull-excursion-reviewfive Stars - She's a Keeper.  Wow! $350 of pure tone. - Christian P.

seagull-excursion-review 5 Stars - I take a nice Martin, which I attempt very hard to protect with a humidor, and from the heat and common cold. I wanted a guitar to take to the beach, mountains, camping ground ... WOW. For the price these guitars are amazing! I beloved that you can feel the wood grain on the body. . . . Fred Thousand. A.

For the coin and the quality, this is one of the very all-time guitar lines I have reviewed in the $299 - $450 range with splendid craftsmanship, tone, playability and durability for years of playing enjoyment.
